Udall, Bennet Pretend to Worry About Debt Ceiling

Hmmm.

Fed up with inaction as the federal government inches closer to its borrowing limit, Colorado U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and Mark Udall are assembling a bipartisan group to speak out in hopes of reaching a compromise.

Inaction, huh? I notice that the Denver Post doesn't feel the need to mention that Democrats in the Senate haven't passed a budget in nearly 800 days. They also voted down every budget that has come before that august body this session including 0-97 "No" on the President's budget.

Should I mention that both Bennet and Udall have been in the Senate that whole time? Have either of them put forward a budget plan? Nope. Are the publicly pressuring their party leadership to put forward a budget? Nope. I'm having a hard time taking them seriously.

Udall and Bennet have been hustling together a band of Republicans and Democrats to push a deal that would include federal spending cuts and tax increases.

Republicans have been sticking to their guns on tax hikes and neither side will even consider raising taxes on the 48 percent of workers who pay no taxes at all. It's too bad. The one tax hike Republicans would go for would be a reformation of the current tax code into the Flat Tax or Fair Tax and those are the only tax hikes Democrats cannot stand.
